This season looks set to mark the end for one of Carlisle United's longest-standing traditions - the matchday programme.

We featured the looming decision in the News & Star on Saturday, as editor Andy Hall explained how declining sales figures in the online age had made the move inevitable.

Readers got in touch with their views on Twitter and Facebook after reading our article. Here's a range of supporters' opinions...

Disappointing, but understandable. I rarely buy programmes, maybe two or three per season. Wanted to buy one on Tuesday night whilst in the stadium, but having none on sale in the concourse/bars meant we went home empty handed. Maybe having a dozen in areas like the Kid Zone could help? (@cufcdeano)

Understandable, I used to buy one every game. Although for past five years or so I only buy first home game of season. However, when possible I buy an away programme. I have a huge collection box that’s will be going back 20+ years. I think we all knew this time would come (@cufcdanny)

Sad - I have a huge collection of CUFC progs - but understandable as haven't bought one for last two or three seasons. It's all online - but you wonder if the Twitter/FB/Instagram archive will be accessible or have the same appeal as a tangible physical object in 20, 30, 50 years? Maybe an opportunity for CUOSC and London Branch/Hit the Bar to do a combined fanzine/programme?(@McCarlisle1)

Having written the league news page for a good number of seasons (was asked by Barbara and Andy to help out) I can say that Andy has done a fantastic job, often with late nights and lots of stress. It was bad enough just doing the one or two pages of news let alone a full programme! (@cumbrianbluess)

Always loved buying a programme. The big issue today is no one carries cash. At times I even forget to bring cash for them (@keeperstuart)

A sign of the times unfortunately; got hundreds going back to when my father collected them in 74/75 and a few older ones. At least won’t have to put many more in the loft (@NHolmesCatax)

Always loved a programme, so I'll be sad to see them go. But completely understandable in this digital and eco-friendly era. I'd love a special "end of season" magazine/programme each year, if that was doable? Thanks to Andy Hall and Amy Nixon for your hard work over the years (@1StevieKilner)

Another one bites the dust. Real shame. Part of the match day experience for me anyway. Yes I’m an old git! Can’t look back on online versions in years to come… (@Snakeeyes7475)

Used to buy them religiously, got thousands at home. Last few I bought though contained very little of any interest and full of adverts. Can see why they're stopping. (Ian Mair)

Such a shame, there are people who still collect them. It’s a sign of the times though. I still miss the Saturday Sports Special that the News & Star used to print with all the results, tables, reports and articles and always out an hour after the game. Even the nationals used to have proper reports on our games. (Paul Hal Irving)

Maybe should do one for the first and last home match of season (Matthew Roberts)

My dad always gets one. His memory isn't sharp and he likes to look at programme and see who the players are. (Andrew McRoy)

It’s sad, but the time has come for it to end (Mikey Davidson)

Gonna end up being collectable then (Adam Lee Hutchings)

Think big game ones would sell, like a Premier League team in the cup but to be honest the last programme I bought I lost interest two pages in. Seen the team lineup on a A4 sheet on Saturday, that would do most people (Craig Sanderson)
