Teenage Carlisle United midfielder Ryan Carr has joined Ipswich Town.

The move was confirmed with just over two hours left on transfer deadline day.

Youth team player Carr has left for an undisclosed fee.

The League One club made their move in recent days and Carr, 18, now joins the Tractor Boys.

Second-year youth player Carr has been around the first-team squad this season, making his senior debut in September's Papa John's Trophy game against Fleetwood Town.

He had also featured for Paul Simpson's side in pre-season.

But now the promising young player heads to the club who sit third in League One.

Simpson told United's website: "We’re obviously disappointed to lose Ryan as we feel he would have had a bright future with us.

“Sadly with the EPPP/EFL academy compensation rules we were left in a position of very little strength to negotiate or object to this happening.

“As a club we have to try and develop homegrown players and we felt Ryan was progressing well. He’d been involved with the first team on a number of occasions.

“We also have to understand that there are times when we need to sell on players to clubs who are in stronger league and financial positions than ourselves.

“This is certainly the case in this transfer.

“We wish Ryan the best of luck for his career and I hope he is able to develop at Ipswich Town.”

Ipswich announced Carr's arrival as one of four young signings who will go into John McGreal's under-21s squad at Portman Road.
