A WOULD-BE robber who was armed with an extendable baton on a Carlisle street has admitted his crimes before a crown court judge.

Wojciech Goracy, 28, committed the offences in Chiswick Street on December 8 last year, the city’s crown court heard. He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery - when he tried to steal £10 from his male victim - and to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place with no reasonable excuse.

The defendant, of Howard Place, Carlisle, also admitted possessing the class B drug cannabis.

During a brief hearing, conducted over a video link from the prison here the defendant is being held, Goracy was told that he will be sentenced after a background report has been prepared on him by the Probation Service.

Defence lawyer Jeff Smith told Judge Nicholas Barker that the defendant has no previous convictions recorded against him in the UK. Goracy will be sentenced at the crown court on February 6, said Judge Barker.

In the meantime, the defendant will remain remanded in custody.
