HAIRY Biker Dave Myers has spoken about the side effects of cancer treatment on his taste buds.

The TV chef had a difficult 2022 after being diagnosed with cancer in April leading him to pull out of planned public appearances.

In the latest episode of the Hairy Bikers – Agony Uncles podcast, Barrow-born Dave explained that his taste is ‘completely shot’ since having chemotherapy.

Dave and his co-star Si King were discussing how much they enjoyed being invited over to dinner by friends when he explained his difficulties with taste.

He said: “It’s lovely being able to sit down and put my feet under the table, shoes off and get ready for what’s coming really.

“It’s nice where I’ve moved to in Staffordshire. We’ve been round to the neighbours three times, and they can all cook.

“It’s very lovely and we enjoy it and appreciate it, especially at the minute because my palate is all over the place.

“I taste something and I get it in my head what it is, but with the chemotherapy, what goes down that end is completely different.

“I had a craving for a fish finger sandwich the other day but when push came to shove it wasn’t doing it really. Taste is just completely shot. Changed.”

Dave previously divulged on the podcast that his life had become ‘routine’ since beginning chemotherapy.

He said: “It’s funny, this year (2022) since April when I started chemo my life has been such a routine and it’s only now that I’m starting to feel for Lil (his partner) and stick my head above the parapet a little bit even if it’s just going down to the pub and having one pint.

“It’s just actually making those steps – it’s quite hard actually going out when you’ve been in the position that I’ve been in, but last week we went for dinner and I had to kind of push myself but it was worth it for both of us.”
