A FAMILY-OWNED and operated independent cinema is preparing to host Cumbria’s first Chinese film festival.
Keswick's Alhambra Cinema will pulling out the red carpet for the inaugural Mint Chinese Film Festival, organised by the cinema’s co-owner Carol Rennie and London-based film curator Yixiang Shirley Lin.
The event will run from February 3 to 5, 2023.
The 2023 edition is centred to focus on cross-cultural communication of Chinese cinema and women’s representation in films.
The festival hopes to provide an occasion for spectators, filmmakers, critics and scholars to watch, discuss and award films.
The 2023 Mint Chinese Film Festival is calling for short films that are made in the Chinese-speaking world or within the Chinese diaspora - with particular emphasis on women filmmakers to get invovled.
From the collection at the 2023 Mint Chinese Film Festival, will feature flicks for the audiences to perceive Chinese cinemas with a fresh and alternative perspective, in which these films are not merely foreign language films for minority groups of audiences but are open to the audiences from all over the world.
