A WELL-LOVED bar located on Carlisle's high street has made a triumphant return after a lengthy absence.

Le Gall, which takes its influences from a French-style brasserie, has made its return to 7 Devonshire Street.

Owner Mike Hope, who owns the building, took on the lease again from the former occupants Maggie Elliot to bring back the bar.

Mike, who was brought up in Brampton, said he's happy with how it looks with many exciting plans for the future in the pipeline.

"I like Carlisle, I'm quite happy here. I took the lease back, as it's my building, so I decided to do something with it and thought why not bring back Le Gall.

"I wanted to try and give it a bit of a French look, that brassiere style was the idea really.

"I'm very pleased how its turned out, but there's more to do because there's a big room upstairs, and another small one - the idea in the future is to make a more of a lounge space in the upstairs," he said.

The premise specialises in wine, champagne, cocktails and beer - offering a unique draft selection such as Brooklyn Lager, Angelo Perotti, Hobgoblin and Somersby Apple Cider.

Whilst the bar isn't currently serving food, it's something Mike said 'may happen in the future' especially as there is a kitchen located in the basement of the building.

The business, which opened just over a week ago, takes its name from the 19th century building situated across the road, Maison Le Gal.

Maison Le Gal was a popular hairdressing and beauty salon previously in the area, one which Mike said many people still know the name of - part of his reasoning to keep the name alive.

The business, at the moment, is currently only open at the weekends but are appealing for any potential staff to get in touch. In line with the weekend work, Mike said the part-time positions would also be suitable for students.
