HOW many Carlisle houses could Mariah Carey buy with the earnings for her Christmas hit, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'?

We've crunched the numbers to find the answer to this crucial question.

The 'Queen of Christmas' released her festive mega-hit in 1994 and since then it has sold over 10 million copies and has been streamed over 1.3 billion times on Spotify.

In its latest cycle this Christmas, the Official Charts Company reported that the song had been streamed 10.8 million times.

In the time since its release, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' has earned a reported £61 million, up to and including this year.

The song also makes an estimated £2 million every year.

With these estimated earnings in mind, and Land Registry figures showing that the average price of a house in Carlisle in October was £172,000, Carey could purchase about 352 houses in the area.

Across the UK, the songstress could purchase the most homes in Burnley, with her hits earnings affording her 506 houses, whilse she could purchase the fewest - a mere 45 - in Kensington and Chelsea.

Mayah Riaz, celebrity PR manager explained the success of the festive chart-topper.

She said: "When you think of Christmas songs, it’s the first one people usually think about. It’s so iconic.

"It’s been released for nearly 30 years, so it’s had the longevity to be memorable for many adults as it’s played on most people’s Christmas playlist.

"It’ll continue to grow with it having already become iconic and it being part of future generations’ Christmas playlist.

"So, I very much expect it to keep topping future charts too."
