TEMPORARY traffic lights and a collapsing grass verge is causing havoc for driving conditions in Cumbrian village, leaving many residents frustrated.

The lane from the A5086 at Crossgates has a set of traffic lights, and Fitz Bridge, close to the lights, has a narrow grass verge which has started to collapse down to the beck.

Residents were told by a county council highways engineer in January 2021 that was the reason that the lights had been put in place.

Over the period of two years since they were placed there, they have been moved closer and closer to the verges; residents suspect they have been manually moved due to frustration.

The lights have had the effect of narrowing the lanes where they are set up.

The last minutes of the Lamplugh Parish Council meeting held on November 16 record that the works by Fitz Bridge were 'due to be finished by September' and 'the traffic lights are still there and causing havoc due to incorrect sequencing.'

The county council were approached for comment.
