NEW DATA from the 2021 census has given a fresh insight into the composition of households in Carlisle.
The figures from The Office for National Statistics show that of Carlisle households, 18.4 per cent included a couple but no children in 2021.
This figure is down from 18.8 per cent of households featuring couples with no children in 2011.
During this same 10 year period, Carlisle went from being close to the median level for the share of households including a couple but no children, to being among the highest 35 per cent of English local authority areas.
This decrease in Carlisle was also mirrored in the North-West, with the percentage of households with no children in the region falling from 16.5 per cent in 2011 to 16.0 percent in 2021.
These figures also fell across England, with the percentage falling from 17.6 per cent to 16.8 per cent.
