TWO years on from the initial rollout of the UK Covid-19 vaccination programme, new data details how many people in Carlisle have received their jabs.

Thursday, December 8 2022 marks two years since 90-year-old Margaret Keenan became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.

This event kicked off a national and international rollout of the vaccine.

Since then, around 83,300 people in Carlisle have been fully vaccinated, having received the first and second injection, according to figures from the UK coronavirus dashboard.

This means that of November 30, at least 82.7 per cent of people aged 12 and over in Carlisle had their first two jabs.

These figures were obased on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service.

This data also stands above the national average, with 42 million people (75.2 per cent) receiving their first two vaccines.

Steve Russell, NHS director of vaccinations and screening said: "It has been two years since the NHS in England delivered the world’s first Covid jab outside of clinical trials, and thanks to NHS staff and volunteers, more than 143 million doses have been administered across the country providing life-saving protection and allowing us to get back to a pre-pandemic way of life."
