A NEW cafe may be on the way for Distington, after planning permission was submitted by Copeland Borough Council.

An application was submitted to Copeland Borough Council for an office at the Victorian Walled Garden At Distington Hall, to be converted into a cafe on the site on December, 1.

The walled garden is next to the Distington Crematorium.

The cafe will be a space for people use as a place of reflection for loved ones allowing people to 'reflect and relax'.

Describing the use of the site, the application form said: "Current mothballed building in the enclosed Victorian walled garden grounds was used for the purpose of community usage.

"We are proposing to change the use of the building to make it into a cafe with the facilities for people to use it as a place to reflect or have a wake for loved ones that have passed away.

"The Cafe will to start be open during weekends and part of the week for people to come in the gardens and enjoy the space to reflect and relax."

The building has been mothballed since 2010 and is currently only used on occasions by staff and community payback people to use the utilities like kitchen and toilets.
