HOSPICE at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland has announced that it has secured a number of guaranteed places for the Great North Run in 2023.

The Hospice, which covers 1,500 square miles across Cumbria and the Scottish Borders, will have 25 places in the annual half-marathon.

As a charity, the Hopsice must raise £20,000 a week to be able to maintain the services that it provides.

Cath Coates, fundraiser for Hospice at Home expressed her excitement after the charity secured the places.

She said: "We are delighted to have guaranteed places once more for this iconic event, dubbed 'the World’s Greatest Half Marathon'."

The Hospice at Home is now looking for 25 runners to take on the 13.1 mile route from Newcastle to South Shields on behalf of the charity on Sunday, September 10.

Whether this be in memory of loved one, or just a personal mission to get fit in 2023, the hospice is welcoming all volunteers.

Last year, 37 Hospice at Home supporters took part in the Great North Run and collectively raised £22,000 for the charity, something Ms Coates reflects on with pride.

She said: "The funds raised in 2022 greatly exceeded our expectations and we would like to say thank you to every runner and every donor for raising this fantastic sum.

"We look forward to meeting our team for 2023 and encourage all interested supporters to get in touch today."

Places cost £60 and each runner is asked to try and raise £295 to help future patients and their families.
