A POPULAR city centre eatery and cocktail bar has made a bid to Carlisle City Council to expand its premises.

The Print Yard, which describes itself as 'your one stop shop for top notch street food, sunshine cocktails and cold beer' in the city, has submitted an application to the council for the change of use of a 'derelict' building next door to its current venue - with the hopes of expanding.

The Print Yard has been a firm favourite in Carlisle since its opening, with many flocking to sample the wide range of street food on offer.

The application for the building at the east end of Old Post Office Court says it will be a 'change of use of building to be used for the consumption of food and drink operating as part of the Print Yard.'

The building, which is believed to have been first constructed in the 1830s as a stables or coach house, is said to have been empty for a 'considerable time'.

A design and access statement said: "The building has been vacant for a considerable time and is in a fairly derelict state.

"The east elevation in particular however has a number of bricked up openings, including an arched opening, which could suggest it had originally been a stables or coach house, with a hayloft above."

If approved , the application, which was submitted to Carlisle City Council on November 21, would see the venue extend, using the new building as an 'annex' to the existing operation and provide more seating for customers.

The design and access statement said: "The application proposes the conversion of the buildings for use for the sale of food and drink, and will be operated as an annex to the existing operation in Post Office Court, providing additional indoor seating.

"Its opening times will match those of the existing licensing consent under which the premises operates at present."
