WORKINGTON MP Mark Jenkinson has joined the Women and Equalities select committee in parliament.
The group is made up of parliamentarians across the house who scrutinise Government policy in regard to equalities.
In a statement on social media, Mr Jenkinson, who has been the MP for Workington since 2019, said he was 'delighted' to join the committee.
Mr Jenkinson has been appointed alongside Jamie Wallis, Conservative MP for Bridgend since 2019.
Jamie Wallis has been described in the media as ‘the first openly trans MP’ following his statement earlier this year which said: “I’m trans. Or to be more accurate, I want to be".
The committee’s most recent inquiry involved honour-based abuse against women and girls.
