POLICE are investigating numerous reports of people throwing eggs from a vehicle, often at other people’s vehicles.

This is reportedly happening mainly in the Carlisle area, and in Longtown.

One such report described how someone’s new car’s mirror was smashed by a thrown egg.

This was related to a sighting of a white pick-up truck at around 6pm on November 27 on the A7, heading towards Carlisle.

Another report described how the same thing happened to their relative, an older person, who became frightened upon it happening to them as they were pulling out on the main road at Sandysike, heading towards Longtown.

Two other, separate, reports of the same thing happening in Gretna have been shared on social media, with one reporting a similar, white truck, and the other reporting a lime-green one.

There is also a report of someone’s window having an egg thrown at it on Swan Street in Longtown at the weekend.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said of the several reports: “Police are aware of a number of recent reports in the Carlisle area involving people throwing eggs from a vehicle.

“Enquiries are being conducted by the neighbourhood policing team, including investigations into whether the incidents are all links.”

A neighbourhood policing officer said: “Throwing eggs at people cars and at pedestrians is dangerous and could cause serious harm.

“Damage has been reported to two of the vehicles during the incidents.

“This behaviour is unacceptable; we are working to identify those involved to hold them to account for their action.”
