A drink-driver was on his way to buy baby milk when he crashed into the vehicle in front of him.

Police were called to a collision on Shore Road at Salterbeck in Workington, just after 9.45pm on August 11, Workington Magistrates’ Court was told.

Officers arrived and found an Audi A6 with front end damage but the driver, Kylan Walker, 27, was not inside. He had gone to get a phone to call the police.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said Walker described how he had been driving behind a vehicle that had slammed its brakes on. He said he’s had a couple of cans with his dinner.

He was arrested and taken to the police station. He gave a reading of 55mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Walker made ‘no comment’ throughout police interview.

The defendant, who was unrepresented in court, said: “I was going to the shop to get my baby some milk.

“I’m very sorry for what I have done. I know I have done wrong. I will probably lose my job.”

Walker, of Clifton Hall Close, Great Clifton, Workington, pleaded guilty to driving with alcohol level above the limit.

Magistrates banned him from driving for 12 months, to be reduced by 13 weeks, if he completes the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course.

He was fined £390 and must pay £85 costs and a £156 victim surcharge.
