A KENDAL hotel guest who performed a sex act in front of a female receptionist after answering his bedroom door invited the shocked woman into his room, telling her: “I’ll give you the night of your life.”

The sordid incident left her and a colleague shocked – but 29-year-old Alexander Nix only became apologetic when he was told he would be thrown out of the hotel.

He admitted outraging public decency on October 2 last year.

Andrew Evans, prosecuting at Carlisle Crown Court, outlined how the defendant was staying at the hotel when at 11.30pm another man approached the receptionist and attempted to pay for Nix’s car parking.

The woman said she needed the car registration number before the payment could be made. The man then asked the woman to go with him to get those details from Nix, who was in his bedroom.

"She replied that she would once she’d put something in a cupboard,” said Mr Evans. “As she did so she texted a colleague to meet her at room 4 as she felt uneasy about the situation.”

When they knocked on Nix’s door, he initially did not answer, but then the second man knocked again, saying through the door that he was “trying to sort out the car park”. The man commented that Nix was in the shower.

Mr Evans said the woman’s unease rose when Nix opened the door and was completely naked, with a hand over his penis.

Nix told the other man to leave and asked the receptionist to join him in his room. The court heard that he said she would have the night of his life, adding: “You don’t know what you’re missing.”

He began performing a sex act. The woman, who had retreated across the corridor when she saw Nix was naked, was frozen in shock, said Mr Evans. When Nix realised another member of staff had arrived, he closed the door slightly.

The other staff member and the receptionist went into a nearby room to discuss what happened as the second man who had earlier been at the reception desk stood outside, knocking on the door and apologising for what had happened.

When staff returned to the floor where Nix was staying, they found him in the corridor, dripping wet and “with what appeared to be a rug wrapped around his midriff”. His manner was described as “boisterous.”

He became apologetic only when told he was being told to leave the hotel.

When interviewed by the police, Nix denied performing the sex act or asking the woman to go into his room with him. He said he had been naked when he answered the door purely because he had been in the shower.

He admitted that when he checked in he’d put a bottle of wine on the reception counter and invited the receptionist to have a drink with him. In court, his defence barrister said he now accepted the prosecution version of what happened.

Defence barrister Nicoleta Alistari, defending, said the defendant wished to apologise for his actions that day. “He feels ashamed of his behaviour,” she said.

“He is willing to undertake a course of sexual offender treatment.” She pointed out that a probation officer had assessed Nix as being “a low risk” of reoffending. Due to become a father next year, he had found the whole experience “humiliating.”

Recorder Peter Horgan told Nix, from Belper, Derbyshire, that his behaviour had left the victim shocked. “She had never been put in that position before and that is understandable because it was disgraceful, boorish and criminal,” said the judge.

What happened had left the victim tearful and impacted on her confidence, leaving her so anxious that she had been unable to leave home for a period of time.

The defendant, whose previous convictions include and actual bodily harm assault, police assault and a public order offence, was given an 18-month community order, which includes 20 rehabilitation activity days.

He must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work and observe a three month 8pm to 6am curfew. Nix must pay a £750 contribution towards prosecution costs. Nix entered his guilty plea on the day he was due to stand trial.
