Our readers have responded to comedian Joe Lycett shredding £10,000 of his own money after the deadline he issued David Beckham expired.

The popular comic gave an ultimatum to the former footballer last week over his controversial deal with Qatar to promote the upcoming world cup.

David Beckham is an ambassador for Qatar ahead of the World Cup and is being paid to endorse them.

Here's what you had to say.

Elaine Penrice said: "He’d do more good donating it to worthy causes."

Sharon Joy Reynolds said: "Just donate it."

Brenda Irvine Munro said: "Shocking when so many families won’t even have a Christmas dinner this year."

Shirleyann Patterson said: "Why didn't he give it away to people who are really struggling at the moment?"

In a video posted to social media, Lycett had said if Beckham, who he hails a “gay icon” did not pull out of the deal, he will shred £10,000 of his own money.

As the 12pm deadline on Sunday passed, that is exactly what the comedian did.

Mr Lycett had informed the footballer that if had ended his deal with Qatar, the comedian would donate the money to charities that support queer people in football.
