READERS have reacted following the announcement that Starbucks will be opening a new drive-thru franchise in Kingstown Industrial Estate.

Coffee cravers will be able to get their bean-fuelled buzz from Starbucks from December 1.

It will, according to the Starbucks franchisee OCO, be its first store in England, and its 18th store overall.

They also say that this new café and drive-thru will create 25 jobs for the local area.

Store manager Jade Bird said: “I think there’s some excitement about the store opening as we have been missing from the city for a few years, so customers are excited to see us back.”

This new Starbucks store will replace the former Suzuki showroom on Kingstown roadway in the north of the city.

The new café will be open from 6am to 10pm, from Monday to Sunday.

It will have 31 parking spaces, 13 electric vehicle charging points, and racks for 14 bicycles.

Some readers are excited about the prospect but others are largely indifferent on the franchise opening up in Carlisle

Deborah Maclagan Henshaw was happy about the prospect.

"Good job really, as people really struggle for somewhere to get a coffee in Carlisle! What we need now is some decent clothes shops," she said.

Alice Power said: "No more trips to Hexham."

Largely however, readers weren't as thrilled.

Colin May said: "Good for jobs but you can get coffee that 20 times better at John Watt & Son at The Cafe on Bank St or Espresso Hub."

Jude Robson said: "Yawn. I prefer to support our indepedent coffee shops."

Dawn Lancaster said: "Another bloody coffee shop. How much coffee do you think we drink? Help the small businesses survive. We would much prefer that."

Anne Sowerby also said: "Sadly on the outside of town , come on city council, you need to help inner city growth."

And Liz Paris pointed out: "Just what Kingstown needs another coffee shop. There's 2 Costas within a hundred yards of each other already."
