A HUGE angel somewhat resembling the Pilsbury Doughman from Ghostbusters, was not what this nostalgia was going to be about.

Indeed, the plan was to find photographs that would somehow reflect the mess that we in with galloping inflation and the huge rise in energy prices.

However, inflation seems to mean many things and, in our recent archives, inflation means inflatable which is why, instead of considering ways of stretching the household budget, you are looking at ways to bounce around, slide downhill or scrabble through tunnels.

Actually, when you think about, that probably represents the present situation quite well!

One photo that caught my eye was that of Vivian Murray, then aged four, sliding down an inflatable slide with hair flying everywhere and not a trace of fear.

This photo was taken in 2020. I wonder if Vivian, at 26, is still tackling life head-on in this way?

The most unusual photo - and the most impressive - is the inflated terrace house created by artist Maddy Nicholson. It is so realistic.

Could this possibly be the answer to affordable housing - although we don't have any information about how it would cope in a high wind!

The Raft of Medusa was an inflatable exhibition by accomplished artist Maddy Nicholson.

It is a fabulous exhibit based on a painting by Théodore Géricault.

Meet the services day at the Carlisle Youth Zone proved popular again. Armed and emergency services converged to give the young people a chance to see what they could aspire to.

For some, decisions on the future were a long way away and trying out an inflatable army obstacle course was much more fun.

So there it is: Inflation, inflatables who knows what is coming next, although it is encouraging to know that an inflatable raft like that of Medusa might be able to help keep us afloat, and that is probably the best we can ask for at the moment.
