Carlisle bare-knuckle boxer Danny Christie has a new opponent for his next big bout this month.

The Currock fighter had been scheduled to take on Jamie ‘Boom Boom Jones at the BKFC Newcastle event.

But an injury to his north east based opponent saw Jones pull out.

And Christie will instead take on experienced Bristol bare-knuckle boxer Darren Godfrey.

It will be the Carlisle man’s second fight in the major bare-knuckle scene after his victory over Terry Brazier at Wembley arena in BKFC 27 August.

Christie spoke on his YouTube channel about the change of opponent, and praised Godfrey for accepting the fight at short notice.

“Jamie Jones pulled out due to a hand injury -   was a bit upset at first but I have got a lot of respect for him,” the 37-year-old said.

“It is what it is, you can’t make anyone fight. I know all about sore hands. I accept what he’s saying and appreciate his kind words.

“We’ve got a replacement in no time, an experienced bare-knuckle lad, Darren Godfrey.

“The phonecall was made and he took the fight straight away, like a fighting man would.

“I think we can entertain the fans. I’m gonna bring it, I’ll be going for the finish as usual but there’ll be no predictions. It's a bare-knuckle fight and you never know how it’s gonna go.

“I’ll be 110 per cent. When I’m in the ring with anyone, my mindset is that I can beat them. May the best man win.”

The fight will be on the card at BKFC Newcastle on Saturday, November 26 in the city’s Walker Activity Dome.

Christie impressed in his first BKFC outing when he overpowered mixed martial arts star Brazier to win by technical knock-out in the third round at Wembley.
