Guilty of murder: Two men convicted of fatal stabbing in Carlisle City Centre

It took a jury seven hours to deliver unanimous guilty verdicts on 29-year-old Kane Hull – the man prosecutors said carried out the brutal stabbing on September 18 last year - and his accomplice Liam Porter, 33. 

There were gasps from the public gallery of Court Number Three at Carlisle Crown Court as the verdicts were announced.

Man prosecuted over having knuckleduster in private dwelling

A Carlisle man has been prosecuted for illegally possessing a knuckle duster in “a private place.”

Jamie McCluskey, 45, was caught with the weapon at Grierson Road, Carlisle, on July 29, the city's Rickergate court heard.

Court approves 28-day contact ban

A Cockermouth man has been given a court order that bans him from contacting or “pestering” a woman.

Jamie Lee Lowther Barton, 33, of Kirkfell Avenue, was in court when magistrates approved the 28-day order.

A man has appeared in court and denied a charge of murder arising from the death of a student in an accommodation block in Newcastle earlier this term.

Aaron Ray was present, in the dock, at a plea and trial preparation hearing at Newcastle Crown Court today (Friday, October 28) accused of killing Jason Brockbanks, on September 27 this year.

Homeless shoplifter stole four times in one day

A homeless shoplifter who committed a spate of thefts - including four in a matter of hours in Workington - has been jailed.

When he appeared before Carlisle’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court, Antony Weir, 31, entered guilty pleas to six counts of theft.

A rapist from Carlisle has been branded "evil" after he bullied a woman he met online  into meeting him so he could attack her.  

Ryan Neale, 23, was today jailed for seven years and seven months after he pleaded guilty to raping his terrified victim in a car park after he had effectively "blackmailed" her into meeting him, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

A knife-wielding thug left a man who refused to fight him scarred after slashing his face during a confrontation near Carlisle city centre.

Ricky Murphy, 26, was riding an electric scooter when he caught up with his victim outside the city’s railway station, where he told the man: “I’ve got a blade with me – and I want you to come down this lane for a fight.”

Drug dealer was stashing cocaine in Kinder eggs

A DRUG dealer who was caught when police raided his Wigton home was using Kinder eggs containers to store cocaine.

Michael Wright, 28, had one of the egg containers in his tracksuit pocket while others containing cocaine wraps were stashed in cups that were hanging from a mug tree in his kitchen, the court heard.
