No decision has yet been made on the closure date of the Tesco Metro at Victoria Viaduct in Carlisle City Centre.

In July the supermarket announced that the popular store would be closing but a new ‘Express’ store may be opened in the city.

At the time of the announcement, a Tesco spokesperson said: “We have taken the difficult decision to close our Carlisle Victoria Viaduct store later this year.

"We serve a fantastic community in Carlisle and remain committed to the town. We are actively working on plans to open a new Express store locally.

“Our priority over the coming months is to support our colleagues that are affected. Wherever possible we will offer them alternative jobs within Tesco.”

However, since July no new decision has been made regarding the closure date of the store and about the location of a potentially new Tesco Express.

The store will continue to open normally until a closure date is announced.
