A collective of makers has taken up residence at a pop-up shop in Carlisle.

The ‘Something Different Makers Collective’, made up of Jo Moscrop, Carl Fitton, Heather Glouchkoff and Rosie Galloway-Smith, has taken over the pop-up shop opposite Schuh on the Lanes Shopping Centre, Carlisle.

Their two-week residency started yesterday (October 24), and allows their business which sells products ranging from textiles to skincare items to be showcased.

Rosie, who owns the textile business Ramble and Rose and is part of the collective, said: “We find that together we pull in a wider range of interested customers who often end up purchasing something they wouldn’t have considered before.

“The first time we worked together was during the height of the Covid scare and we actually didn’t see each other’s full faces until the second time we came together as we took Covid safety very seriously.

“I sold plenty of handmade cotton masks that time. I’m glad they aren’t so necessary now as it makes it easier to chat to customers.”

Jo’s business called ‘Jo’s Little People’ has been gathering collectors both locally and internationally since she launched over 20 years ago with little Roman figures for Birdoswald Roman fort.

The range now includes little people depicting a wide variety of hobbies, occupations, pets, and lifestyles.

Carl has been working as an artist since 2003 and made the move to being a full-time artist in 2017.

He has two distinct lines to what he does, traditional animal-based subject matter which he does in pencil, and a range of digital pieces based on popular culture.

Carl has built up a dedicated following locally but also ships prints, cards, cushions, and coasters worldwide on his Etsy shop.

The fourth business making up the group is Heather’s Hands, run by Brampton-based maker Heather Glouchkoff and set up in 2017.

Heather is a member of the soap-making guild and has developed a range of products with clearly labelled ingredients.

The brand was born out of a desire to create a range for her own family who suffers from eczema, asthma, and hay fever.

She started with soap and now her product range spans soaps, lip balms, body butter, dry clay masks, bath salts and shampoo bars.

The collective is open from 10am to 5pm.
