Cumbria County Council commissioned a transport improvements plan for Penrith to support Eden District Council’s Local Plan which looks at future development.

The transport plan identifies a range of improvements to the highway network that are required to support growth ambitions. These improvements are being delivered by Cumbria County Council in phases as and when development timescales are understood.

The scheme proposes to increase the pedestrian space, reducing the number of pedestrian crossings and providing an opportunity to enhance the public realm as a gateway into the town centre. As a result of this pedestrian improvement will mean that Corney Place will be one-way southbound.

The county council is inviting residents and businesses to a drop-in session where they can view plans and examine proposals for improvements in greater detail.  The drop-in session will be held on:

  • Wednesday 26 October – in Penrith Library from 12pm – 2pm.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “We are working to improve the links for transport in Penrith and have commissioned several studies for the Penrith Transport Improvements project.

“The proposed improvements at Corney Place will be much safer for pedestrians and the local residents.

“I would encourage members of the local community to attend the drop-in session on Wednesday 26 October, so that we can listen to and understand their views.”
