THE family of former Carlisle United player Danny Hodgson have faced a horrific echo of what happened to Danny - after their youngest son was 'attacked' after leaving college in Carlisle.

Danny's brother, Joe, from Cleator Moor, has been left 'too scared to leave the house' after the 'unprovoked attack' which allegedly took place as he was leaving Carlisle College in the afternoon of Monday, October 17.

His mum Nicola has been left 'heartbroken' by the incident - in the underpass between Chapel Street and Strand Road - which she says has left him not wanting to leave the house.

Nicola said: "On Monday my son Joe was at Carlisle College and was robbed and assaulted in an unprovoked attack.

"Now he is too scared to leave the house the police are involved looking for the scum bag so can't say much. But please tell your kids to stay safe in Carlisle especially in the subway tunnel."

Nicola has said the incident has affected her son enormously, and urged people to think about how these kind of attacks can affect people.

She said: "It's heartbreaking when your son tells you to stop crying because he will be safe as he is never leaving the house again

"These scum bags don't know how they change the whole course of people's lives."

The attack comes 13 months after brother Danny Hodgson a 26-year-old footballer was seriously hurt in a one-punch assault, last September.

Danny astounded medics with his brave recovery but has had to re-learn basic functions due to the seriousness of his injuries- he is continually improving after what has been a very difficult year for the family.

The teenager who attacked Danny in Perth, Australia, is serving a three year and eight month sentence in juvenile detention.
