The Mayor of Carlisle, Brampton’s Mike Mitchelson, visited once again his first school.
Mr Mitchelson, alongside Mayoress Anne Mitchelson, visited Lanercost Church of England Primary School, a school the Mayor attended from the age of five.
It was a mayoral visit chiefly, but also a chance for the Mayor to reflect on his time in Lanercost, having grown up around the Brampton area and lived there all his life.
He said: “We went as we'll be doing at quite a lot of the schools throughout the few months, we took with us the sword and mace and explained the history behind the regalia, what it stands fo , and the history of the civic side of mayoralty, the kids can hold it which went down very well.”
On what’s changed, Mr Mitchelson said: “It's been quite a while when I started at that school at the age of 5.
“The school, at the time I went in the late 50s, had only two classrooms, and now there's such a huge difference, it's really a first-class modern school.
“When I told the kids they were quite shocked.”
