AN EXPERIENCED author is set to discuss her adult novel, a gripping and ambitious book exploring women’s lives in Victorian England, at the city's beloved Cakes & Ale cafe. 

An evening with...Liz Hyder, will see the author discuss her latest book The Gifts at the Bookends cafe on November 10. 

Bearmouth, her debut young adult novel was awarded a Waterstones Children's Book Prize, the Branford Boase Award and was chosen as Children's Book of the Year in The Times - making The Gifts her first venture into the world of adult novels. 

The Gifts explores ideas of enlightenment, science and art and the importance of nature while showing the pitfalls of ambition and the beauty and struggles of womanhood.

At £12 a ticket, the evening will include a complimentary drink and a copy of the book.
