A WOMAN has appeared in court accused of setting her caravan on fire in order to gain from the insurance.
Catherine Dockray McCreadie, 59, pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud by false representation, arson with recklessness and committing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice.
McCreadie is accused of destroying by fire a caravan which belonged to her, at Inglenook Caravan Park in Lamplugh on September 14, 2020 and being reckless as to whether the life of another would be endangered.
It is alleged that McCreadie dishonestly made a false representation on October 5, 2020, that the fire which had destroyed her caravan was caused by another, intending to make a gain from the insurance payment.
The defendant of Esk Avenue, Whitehaven, is also accused of giving a false statement to the police investigating the fire on October 9, 2020.
The case will be heard at Carlisle Crown Court on November 7.
