CELEBRITIES have been photographed wearing charity wristbands for Danica's Dream Fund.

The fund was set up in memory of Danica Maxwell, of Egremont, who lost her battle with cancer aged 15.

Since then the charity has been doing work to support other people who are suffering from cancer and their families.

To raise awareness of the cause, wristbands with the charity's logo on have been sent to a number of celebrities who have photographed themselves wearing them.

Mark Andrews, a trustee at the charity, said: "It gets the word out because a lot of celebrities publish them on their own Twitter account with hundreds of thousands of followers.

"So it helps to highlight the charity and create more donations for the charity. All we do is send them the wristband and then they put it on for a photograph.

"One or two of them will go a bit further and do a video message to the family.

"Shaun Wallace, from the game show The Chase, did a video message amongst others. All we ask for is the photo but some people like to do a bit extra.

"The charity is connected to the RVI in Newcastle and any young person and their family who are being treated there can be referred to Danica's Dream Fund.

"It's a maximum of £300 that they can claim and be used for anything to do with their condition. John Maxwell, Danica's dad, bought a caravan in Silloth and this can be used by the families to give them a bit of respite from what they're going through.

"We get a good few donations coming through to support the charity but we really want to create publicity around it by doing work with these celebrities.

"The wristband pictures with also be posted on the Danica's Dream Fund Facebook page as a way of getting the word out there.

"The donations coming in is a great help but the publicity helps to show what help is out there for those in need."
