An exhibition revisiting memories of the Great War will be held later this month.

A travelling exhibition, it is to visit the library in Cleator Moor on October 20 this year.

In particular, the exhibition will discuss the Tyneside Irish Brigade.

The Tyneside Irish Brigade was a British WW1 infantry brigade of Kitchener’s New Army, raised in the early months of the war in 1914.

The soldiers were all volunteers drawn mostly from the Irish Catholic diaspora from all over the North of England with over 30 from Cleator Moor alone.

16 of which made the ultimate sacrifice, never to return to Cleator Moor.

The Tyneside Irish Brigade Memories is a heritage project based in Newcastle, and they have researched the stories of the soldiers and their families, including some in the Copeland town.

The project team is coming to Cleator Moor with their travelling exhibition, and is inviting people to come and see their work and discover the story of the Moor men in the Tyneside Irish.

Also, the team is hoping to hear from people who may have memories of the war and of the infantry to share with those present.

The exhibition will from 10am to 5pm.
