During his time as a cabinet minister, he set-up the world’s first Green Investment Bank, which supported young people through apprenticeships and promoted socially responsible capitalism.

His political career and working life will be covered when he gives the talk and Q&A session at the Cumberland Liberal Democrats Evening Dinner.

He also served as a Labour councillor in Glasgow from 1971 to 1974 before joining the Social Democrat Party and is currently a visiting professor at the London School of Economics.

The former Lib Dem leader’s professional career includes serving as Chief Economist at Shell International in 1990 and head of the economics programme at Chatham House.

Mr Cable could discuss the financial discussion of the new Government led by Liz Truss as PM.

He has slammed the New Chancellor of the Exchequer’s budget on Twitter recently, saying: “Worrying move on bankers’ bonuses by Kwasi Kwarteng. Repeating folly of the nineties and the run-up to financial crisis: higher growth based on unstable financial freedom. Has the Barclays story been forgotten?”

Tickets include a three course dinner, an address from Mr Cable and opportunities to ask questions.

For bookings, call 07815 618187, the closing date for tickets is Saturday October 1.
