Analysis of meteorological data from the UK Met Office has shown that the Lake District is amongst the rainiest holiday destinations in the country.

The study of UK weather records, carried out by Cofton Holidays, shows that the Lake District, Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands top the leader board as the getaway spots to travel to for the best chances of refreshing showers during the heat.

58% of Brits have opted for a UK staycation this year compared to just 42% who travelled abroad - suggesting that much of the staycation ‘boom’ driven by Covid-19 may be set to stay.

The Lake District sees an average of 1862.91 mm of rain a year with Snowdonia receiving a whopping 2697.13mm per year on average.

Alternatively, sun worshippers looking to dodge the showers would do best to consider the cities of London (562.86mm), York (646.93mm) or Nottingham (715.57mm) where the average volume of rainfall is the lowest.
