A DRUNK man was arrested after lashing out at door staff and being abusive to police officers.

Police were on duty in Whitehaven town centre on August 7 when a call for assistance was received through the radio, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.

Ryan MacDonald, 35, was struggling with door staff outside a bar on Duke Street. When police arrived, he was being restrained outside.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant continued to lash out at door staff and was shouting and being abusive to officers. He was clearly drunk, the court was told.

Officers had to use reasonable force to get him back on the floor and the defendant had to be pava sprayed.

He was then arrested for resisting a police officer.

When asked if there was anything he would like to say to magistrates, MacDonald, who was unrepresented, replied: “There’s no point, no.”

MacDonald, of Solway Road, Moresby Parks, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place and resisting a police officer in execution of duty.

He was fined a total of £484 and must pay £85 costs.
