An MP is pleased that investment works ‘near completion’ at a ‘redundant’ railway station.
Hexham MP, Guy Opperman, invited the Rail Minister, Wendy Morton, to Haltwhistle to see the ongoing improvement works at the railway station.
The works are part of a £500,000 investment package to transform the redundant buildings at the station into improved waiting areas for passengers.
The Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership (TVCRP) has worked with rail company Northern on the scheme, where funding was secured within the rail industry.
Mr Opperman said: “I have visited the works at Haltwhistle Station several times over the years and the progress since my last visit is phenomenal.
"The improvement works will bring in further investment and tourism into Haltwhistle and rejuvenate the local area.
"The community work that has gone into this project has been nothing short of amazing and I want to congratulate the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership for their many hours of dedication and hard work.
“I will be supporting the team at TVCRP for the Community Rail Awards for 2022.”
The Rail Minister, Wendy Morton said: “I have long wanted to visit Haltwhistle Station to see for myself the transformational work that has gone in to ensuring that the station is not only an attraction for visitors and commuters, but also an innovative space for entrepreneurs and local businesses to utilise.
"I look forward to seeing the works completed in the near future.”
