PENRITH Urgent Treatment Centre has treated more than 500 patients since its revamp in November 2021.
After a change of opening times in November, staff were able to learn a range of new skills allowing them to treat a wider variety of conditions alongside the normal steady stream of injuries and illnesses, according to the centre.
The change in the level of care offered in Penrith also means that many patients now don’t have to travel to Carlisle or Whitehaven to get the treatment and care they need.
The centre now cares for patients with scheduled care appointments alongside patients who arrive in need of urgent treatment.
“It is the community that has benefitted the most because they don’t have to travel," said senior staff nurse, Sam Budd.
"The new way of working lets us go on a journey with the patient, we’ve got time talk to the patient and we feel much more part of the community."
Penrith Urgent Treatment Centre is open from 8am until 10pm everyday.
