Carlisle City's first FA Cup run for 42 years is over - but Workington Reds marched on with a SEVEN-goal haul.

City lost 3-2 to Goole in their preliminary round tie at the Three Rivers Health and Safety Consultancy Stadium.

Reds, though, stormed into the next round with a 7-0 victory at West Allotment Celtic.

City, back in the cup for the first time in more than four decades, conceded an early Sam Cable goal before Sam Atkinson headed Jim Nichols' Gillford Park side level before half-time.

Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Goole then opened a 3-1 lead after the break thanks to another Cable strike and a Nathan Perks effort.

A Joshua Dacre own-goal gave Northern League Division One side City late hope but their Yorkshire visitors held on to progress.

Workington, meanwhile, hit the goal trail in the north east to make short work of their Northern League opponents.

Grainger's side raced into a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Scott Allison, Steven Rigg, David Symington and Reuben Jerome.

Greg McCaragher continued the scoring after the break as James Hooper and Symington added further goals.

NPL West side Reds  - who claim £1,444 prize money - will learn their opponents in the first qualifying round when the draw is published at 1pm on Monday. Clubs from non-league step three will enter the competition at this stage.

Another Cumbrian outfit, Kendal Town, were knocked out in the preliminary round thanks to a 5-2 defeat at Bishop Auckland.
