The Mayor of Carlisle, Brampton’s Mike Mitchelson, enjoyed a visit to a multicultural event and a popular village festival.

This is part of the Mayor’s ‘mayoral engagements’ where he connects with the Carlisle communities.

He and his wife (the Mayoress) Anne attended the Dalston Festival on Thursday evening (August 11).

Mr Mitchelson said: “It was a true community event, supported by the people of Dalston.

“It was so nice to meet so many people, and it just shows the real community spirit and support for each other in Dalston.”

On Wednesday, August 17, the Mayor was at the University of Cumbria’s Brampton Road campus to attend a multicultural summer school picnic.

The event was a send-off for the children who were of a variety of nationalities and cultures who had attended the summer school programme of activities, including arts and crafts, organised by Multicultural Cumbria.

Mr Mitchelson said: “It is always a joy to speak to children from different backgrounds.

“The summer school helps these children mix in and become part of Carlisle.”

The event involved a video showing the activities undertaken by the participants to show the parents what went on, and then a picnic followed where the Mayor was able to connect with the city’s new residents, some of whom were from Ukraine.
