Promising young Maryport boxer Bobby Parker came home with a silver medal from the Manchester Box Cup.
Bobby, 14 , was competing in the under-50kg final of the England Boxing-sanctioned event.
Bobby, from Maryport Boxing Club Underdog ABC, took on Preston Burgess from the Hunslet Club in Leeds.
It was a well-contested and hard-fought bout which saw Bobby recover from a tough body shot in the first round to come back stronger in the second and third rounds.
It was not enough to prevent his opponent taking the victory on points.

But coach Wayne Fox said he was proud of the young fighter’s efforts.
“Bobby has been training and learning boxing since he was five and was UnderdogABC’s very first member,” he said.
“He loves his boxing and lives for it. Soon all his hard work will start paying off.
“We are very proud of how he conducted himself in the ring and how he has learned from his losses for his first season as an England Boxing amateur boxer.
“The most important thing about losing is learning from it – if you do that then you have won in a way on a personal level. You only lose at boxing when you pack it in after a loss.
“Bobby is doing what is required to start becoming a winner – which already makes him a winner in the boxing community.”
Bobby will also be competing in the 2022 national junior championships in October.
The young fighter also joined up-and-coming boxers and twins Logan and Mac Fleet, ten, to take part in the Workington Festival of Running last weekend.

“As always for these kinds of occasions Bobby just had to get everyone to dress up in fancy costumes,” added Wayne.
“All three club members earned their first medals and certificates for running. They competed in two runs in total: the 1k & 5k runs.
“Young Bobby is out running at least twice a week now, and is a great inspiration to the other kids at the club.
“Logan and Mac also now go running away from the club and we hope to have them ready for their first skills by the end of the year.”
Underdog Boxing Club is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.20-6.30pm for under-14s, and 7-8.30pm for those 14 and above.
Head coach Wayne Fox says the club are always looking for new members, whether youngsters keen to become boxers or those who want to use boxing training to keep fit.
He can be reached on Whatsapp 07506076937 and the club can also be found on social media.
