MARATHON man Gary Mckee has now ran over 6000 miles as he finishes week 33 of his major

Gary McKee, from Cleator Moor, is running 365 marathons in 365 days for charities Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Speaking for his Whitehaven News diary, Gary said: "Week 33 and over 6000 miles ran and hundreds of different people running or cycling with me. Only a couple more weeks and Beau and Minnie will be back at school.

"They’ve both supported me during the Summer holidays and it’s great spending time together doing something we’re all passionate about. Susan and her friends organised a raffle that brought in over £4500 so a huge thanks to everyone who sold and bought tickets and to all the businesses that provided prizes. We live in a very giving community.

"A few weeks ago I was guest speaker at a St. Bees triers black tie event and I told the audience about how my children had all done fundraising since they were little. A few days later a lady in the audience was at home and her 3 year old son said ‘Mummy I can cycle 30 miles’. Instead of Mum saying something like ‘that’s a long way’ she actually said ‘do you know what? I think you can too’.

"So the little lad Ernie Jacques is going to cycle 31 miles throughout August and raise money for Hospice at home. He’s raised almost £700 so far and we’re only halfway through the month.

"Well done to Mum for letting Ernie express himself in a way that will help others. I saw them out on the cycle path the other day and Ernie was having a great time. He’ll probably never know how the impact of his fun has made a huge difference to other peoples lives. Well done Ernie.

"Over the last couple of weeks I’ve slowed my pace down to compensate for the heat and to aid in my recovery. That was the advice given from someone who’s been running for over 40 years. A champion fella with champion advice that I’d be stupid not to listen to."
