ROADWORKS have begun today on Brampton Road causing a road closure and a diversion around Carlisle.

Brampton Road is closed both ways between the University of Cumbria Campus and Longlands Road and will last until Friday, August 12.

The route is one of the major highways in Carlisle linking the city with Brampton before going over to Hexham and eventually Newcastle.

The road will be closed during working hours to ensure the safety of the works team with the resurfacing unable to be completed during the night as it may cause disruption to local residents.

A signed diversion route is in operation with access to Carlisle City Centre from junction 44 of the A7 and access to the University of Cumbria is via the east side of the Campus.

The works will cause disruption for residents and visitors to the city and motorists are being told to expect delays when driving in Carlisle.
