CHILDREN who attended a junior school in Workington have been having a whole lot of fun this weekend.

Parents of the year 6 leavers at Ashfield Junior School organised a party for all the children to enjoy before they head off to secondary school.

Nicknamed 'Ash Fest', the children enjoyed a night of music, games and a lot of food as a whole class.

The party was hosted in a marquee in the Rivendell area on Friday, August 5, and we are told that the kids truly had an amazing time.

Kerry Tomlinson, a parent who helped to organise the event, said: "Our kids are leaving Ashfield Juniors, so we decided to organise a leaving party for them.

"It was one of the parents ideas and it just snowballed from there, the people at Rivendell let us use the marquee and land for free.

"The kids absolutely loved it, they were making TikTok videos and running about everywhere.

"Domino's in Workington dropped off lots of mini pizzas for the kids and some people brought along hot dogs and rolls.

"Some of the parents chipped in money for ice cream and the children had a go at making mocktails.

"We had a voucher donated from the Tesco store in Workington to fund the mocktail making, it was good because everyone came together and chipped in.

"Some of the kids also did festival style face painting and took part in a game of Twister. It was a really good night.

"All of the children requested a song and a playlist was put together of all their favourites.

"A singer called Devonne Ashton also performed at the event, who's a local performer. The kids were requesting songs from her and she even stayed a bit longer to sing some more songs for them which was really lovely of her.

"There was even a big camp fire outside the marquee where the kids could toast marshmallows."
