A WORKINGTON man is to appear before Carlisle Crown Court on charges related to an alleged burglary in the town.

Nicky Hewiston, 35, of Roper Street, has yet to formally enter any pleas to the four charges charges that he now faces. At Workington Magistrates Court, those charges, all relating to events on May 21, were listed as follows:

  • An alleged burglary without violence, which prosecutors say was committed in Devonshire Street, Workington, when car keys were stolen.
  • Aggravated vehicle taking, when the defendant allegedly took a Vauxhall Insignia car without the owner’s consent and caused damage to ti.
  • Failing to stop after a road accident om Devonshire Street, Workington, on the same occasion, when the Vauxhall Insignia was allegedly involved in an accident and caused damage to two other vehicles – a VW Golf and a Toyta car.
  • And using a motor vehicle without valid insurance.

Magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing September 2, when the defendant will be asked to enter his pleas.

Hewitson was granted bail on condition he has no contact with three named males and that he does not go to Devonshire Street, Workington. The bail is also conditional on the defendant observing a daily doorstep curfew, lasting from 7pm to 7am.

He must make himself available to any police officer who arrives at his home to check that he is observing that curfew, said magistrates. In court, the defendant was represented by defence lawyer John Cooper.
