THE MP for Carlisle, John Stevenson, has welcomed the announcement that Carlisle’s parks will receive additional funding.

Carlisle will receive a share of £9million from the government’s levelling up parks fund to help restore existing green spaces and find new ones in the city.

“Parks and green spaces in Carlisle provide a peaceful space for people to relax, exercise, and socialise, but some of these spaces are in need of development," said John Stevenson MP.

“Therefore, I am delighted that Carlisle has been awarded a share of the £9 million Levelling Up Parks Fund to improve our local green spaces."

Carlisle is one of 19 areas across the North-West to be allocated funding which will help improve green spaces across the country.

The funding will go to councils and local authorities for parks and community gardens and can also be used to help fund new areas.

Commenting on the scheme the levelling up secretary Greg Clark said: "Parks and green spaces are at the heart of our communities.

"Over the past few years, the importance of spending time with loved ones and getting outdoors has become even more apparent, and this latest government funding will help people living in urban areas do just that."
