AN historic 19th century castle and hotel in Kirkby Stephen is up for sale. 

The beautiful and tranquil Augill Castle Hotel and Restaurant, located in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, has been placed on the market with an asking price of £2.5million.

The magnificent space, surrounded by the dramatic backdrop of the north Pennines, is nestled in between 10 acres of private grounds, where the owners raise sheep and cattle, and also offers 12 individually-styled letting bedrooms, alongside a five bedroom owners’ cottage.

The former home was built in 1841 as a Victorian gentleman’s country residence and is currently being listed by Colliers.

A spokesperson from the organisation described the property as: "The letting accommodation is largely situated to the first floor of the castle as well as the converted Orangery and Stable wing.
