"It has been a privilege to facilitate this course as course lead with my colleagues in the learning and development team.

"They have all demonstrated enthusiasm and determination to successfully complete the course. I am confident they will meet the expectations of Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.

"Above all they've demonstrated the behaviours, values and cultural approach to our work in their communities. The bespoke course covered the wider goal of a modern firefighter."

Adrian explained the six key points that were covered in the course including engaging with communities for fire prevention and protection.

Followed by road awareness training, first aid, swift water rescue working at height, pump operations and ladder drills.

He also explained that all of the recruits took part in a 14-day breathing apparatus course which has been described as very demanding. This course involves live fire and tactical ventilation training.

Those who took part in the intensive course also completed technical and written assessments.

Mr Dargue added: "I am very proud of their achievements and look forward to supporting through their continued development and their future career."
