A MARYPORT man has been jailed after he admitted three offences linked to the supply of the class B drug cannabis.
At Carlisle’s Rickergate court, John Chawner, 23, of Mosedale Crescent, entered guilty pleas to the following three offences, all committed in Maryport:
- Between October 1, 2020, and March 29, 2021, he offered to supply cannabis to another.
- Between October 2, 2020, and March 30, 2021, he supplied cannabis to another person.
- And on July 2, 2021, he possessed a quantity of cannabis with intent to supply it to another person.
District Judge John Temperley said that the offences were so serious that only custody could be justified. He imposed a total of ten months jail.
The defendant’s record showed he was a "persistent offender" and played a “significant role” in supplying the drug. Chawner is already in jail for other offending and the latest jail term will be consecutive to the one he is currently serving, said the judge.
Chawner was represented by defence lawyer John Smith.
