A TEENAGER whose BMW car ended up on its roof after a crash at Great Corby near Carlisle was over the drink drive limit.
Angus Bibby, 18, provided a positive alcohol breath test after the police arrived at the scene, producing a reading that showed he had 47mcg of alcohol in every 100mls of breath, Carlisle’s Rickergate court heard.
The legal limit for driving is 35mcg.
The defendant, of Maiden Hill, Penrith, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol on July 10. He had no previous convictions, the court heard.
The teenager told magistrates: “I just want to say that I’m sorry. It [a ban] won’t affect me too adversely. I’m hoping to go to university. I wanted to get home and I have no idea why I made that decision to drive half a mile.
“I clipped the verge.”
It happened on the access road to Cumwhitton, the court heard.
Magistrates imposed a 15-month ban and fined Bibby £356, with £85 costs and a £142 victim surcharge. He was offered the drink driver rehabilitation course, which will reduce his ban by 15 weeks if complete within a deadline.
Bibby had only had his full driving licence since December of last year.
