The Mayor and Mayoress of Carlisle will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary today.
Anne Mitchleson and Mike Mitchelson and the Mayoress and Mayor of Carlisle respectively, have been married for 50 years today.
Speaking on the milestone, Mr Mitchelson said: “I don’t know where the time has gone but it is a lovely achievement to celebrate a golden wedding.
“We have done a lot of things together; it has been 50 great years.
“Obviously people have the odd difference, but you just put that aside.”
Speaking of the highlights over the half-century, he said: “We started up a business in Brampton at the post office.”

He and his wife started and ran, and continue to run, the newsagents on Brampton’s Main Street.
He said: “Anne supported me in the things I did in the Newsagents’ Federation where I had the honour of being national president twice.
“I might not have been able to do this without her, and obviously this year as we are Mayor and Mayoress, she’s been a huge support.
“There are golden memories of the family.
“We’ve had a son and daughter who are both happily married.”
They and their spouses will join the golden couple for a close family meal tonight to celebrate.
