AN EGREMONT man who was caught drug driving in Maryport has been given a ban and unpaid work as punishment.

Ryan Young, 26, who was caught on March 13, pleaded guilty to two drug driving offences, with one involving cannabis and the other cocaine. A tests for cannabis showed he had 6.2mcg of the drug’s active ingredient per litre of blood.

The legal limit for driving is 2mcg.

The test for cocaine showed that he had almost ten times the legal limit for the Class A drug's breakdown product in his system when he was caught driving a Ford Focus in Maryport’s Ewanrigg Road.

Young, of Milton Road, Egremont, who was represented by defence lawyer Kate Hunter, also admitted possessing cannabis, a class B drug, and Class A cocaine as well as driving in a way not authorised by his licence and not being insured.

District Judge John Temperley imposed a one-year community order with various requirements.

These include 150 hours of unpaid work in the community and up to ten days of rehabilitation activity with the Probation Service. The judge imposed a 20 month driving ban on Young.

The defendant must also pay £85 prosecution costs and a £95 victim surcharge. Court records show that in June, 2020, the defendant was given a community order for a Communications Act offence.

Young’s guilty pleas were taken into account, said the judge.
